Clay recently did a sermon series about making peace with various aspects of our lives and our faith. A couple weeks ago, the pastor spoke on Making Peace with Money. He invited several FPU couples from our church to share their feelings about FPU and the changes it has made in their lives. It really got us thinking, again, about how far we've come.
While we were working our Debt Snowball, I'm sure it seemed like we would never get through this. In fact, when we first started we had a 5-10 year time line. Our biggest debt was my school loan. At first my goal was to have it paid off by the time Troy was in high school. Then when we started to pick up speed, my goal was to have it paid off by the time he started kindergarten. We blew that goal away. We ended up paying it off in under 2 years. He was only 3 when we made our Debt Free scream.
We have been debt free for a little over 2 years now. What's amazing is that the last 2 years seem a LOT longer than the 2 years it took for us to pay off the debt. FPU totally change the way we live our life. The things we did before FPU seem so foreign to us now.
Thinking back on all this gives me hope that we'll reach Baby Step #7 sooner than we hope too. We think we're on track to pay the house off in about 12-15 years, but we're really hoping we can do it in less than 10. I have to say, revisiting what we've been through has given me a new spark of gazelle intensity.
I think it's time for us to revisit our goals for this year. Have you looked at yours lately?
